Lishui Plant Science Base of Jiangsu Academy of Agricultural Sciences is an agricultural scientific research base built through state-owned land allocation under the strong support of Jiangsu Provincial Party Committee, provincial government and Lishui District Party Committee and District Government. Covering an area of 1210 mu, it was constructed in 2006 and put into use in 2008 with a total investment of 120 million yuan. It has built a high-standard rice, wheat and oil trial plot of 600 mu, facility trial plot of 200 mu, fruit tree trial plot of 250 mu and supporting facilities. The base has office area and auxiliary rooms (office building, guest house, canteen) of 6000 square meters, scientific research auxiliary rooms (hanging storage room and workers' dormitory) of 6000 square meters, grain farm of nearly 10,000 square meters. It has become a comprehensive agricultural scientific research platform with the functions of scientific and technological innovation, demonstration training, industry driving and popular science education.

At present, eight research institutes, including food Crops Research Institute, cash crops Research Institute, Fruit Trees Research Institute, Plant Protection Research Institute, Resources and Environment Research Institute and Leisure Agriculture Research Institute of Jiangsu Academy of Agricultural Sciences, have settled in the base to carry out scientific and technological innovation and experiment demonstration of new varieties. Every year, it undertakes nearly 50 agricultural research projects at provincial and ministerial level and above, mainly focusing on the leading agricultural industries in Jiangsu province, carrying out the collection and innovation of germplasm resources of high-quality rice, rape, flowers, beans and fruit trees, breeding of new varieties and research on supporting cultivation techniques.

There are several national platforms in the base, such as the National Peach and strawberry Germplasm Resource Nursery in Nanjing, the Nanjing Branch of the National Rape Improvement Center, the National Rice Industry Technology System Test Station, the DUS Test Center in Nanjing of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Areas, and the National Crop Varieties Regional Test and Resistance Identification station.

The base preserves about 30,000 varieties of rice, rape, cotton, fruit trees, beans, flowers and other resources, and obtains more than 100 new varieties of national plants every year. "Nanjaponica" series rice selected in recent years; "Ningza" series rape; "Sucui" series early maturing pears; "Purple gold early growing" grape; "Ningfeng", "Ningyu" strawberry; "Xiahui" series peach, "Jinling huanglu" yellow peach and other new varieties have become the main varieties in Lishui district and surrounding areas.
